I am connecting with the USB driver, no problem in Cubase. Studio One doesn't pick up - I am getting sound on virt. insturments as I imported a midi file created with the Boss 880 and tested it with something else (BFD), no problem, it plays.
When I try to send it to the Boss - nada. It doesn't input or output to it.
Any suggestions?

What OS are you on? Are you running S1 Pro or Artist? 32-bit or 64-bit version? Which audio interface are you using?
How have you set-up the Boss in the external devices?

Boss 880 working fine with midi usb driver on all other programs.
Set up as external instrument, send to USB880 and input to USB880
Won't work this way or via midi.

In order to send MIDI to S1 the Boss also needs to be set up as a keyboard in external devices.

OK, we got some progress. I'll detail it in case someone else needs to do this.
I set the Boss 880 as a keyboard, in External Devices, using the Edirol PCR-3000 Keyboard template (the only Roland entry):
devicename: BossKeys
Receive: Boss DR-880 (midi usb connection, Boss driver)
Send To: Boss DR-880 (midi usb connection, Boss driver)
Midi: All
Default Instrument Input
(I set it up to use CH1 but am doing omni here just to catch everything)
So on a midi track in the Edit window I have input BossKey, output BFD Stereo CH1.
When I press record it does record so that is progress from yesterday.
OK, I am deleting the instrument entry and adding new instrument entry in External Devices:
BossDM
Send to and Receive set to Boss DR-880 (the Boss midi usb driver, just like the top setting).
Set it to CH1
Gives me warning that I might get duplicate triggering since the keyboard also triggers from there, I say OK.
OK, now I go back to the midi track, assign input as BossKey, output as Boss DM and voila! It worked!
I did find the difference here - it needed two units for some reason, it wouldn't input and output to the same unit.
Motoko - thanks a lot for you help!
